Zhang Jun’s innate ability to teach and assess movement patterns stems from his professional dancing background.

Born in northern China, Jun was talent spotted at the age of 13 and sent to study at the prestigious Beijing Dance Institute. Upon graduation, he was invited to join Guangzhou Ballet, one of the nation’s leading ballet troupes. He spent five years with the company, performing coveted roles and touring throughout China.

In 1999, Jun decided to broaden his horizons and accepted a contract with the Singapore Dance Theatre. With his strong, agile physique, he rose quickly through the ranks to become a Principal Dancer, and in 2002, received the Silver medal at the Asia-wide Japan International Ballet Competition.

Suffering from knee and back injuries, Jun developed a keen interest in Pilates as a form of rehabilitation; and this led him to complete his Polestar Pilates Studio Certification. He retired from the stage in 2008 to focus on his Pilates education and has since become a well-respected Pilates instructor, teaching in both Mandarin and English.
